Rifugio CAI is located in 'Alpe
Veglia' natural park, in the North-West of Italy, close to the
Swiss border; it can be easily reached from Italy
North-West cities and from Switzerland
.
You can'n reach the natural park with engine vehicles (unless
uou know somebody who is allowed to use the jeep in the park),
so you have to walk (or byke, if you are very trained) for the
last stretch from San Domenico. You can reach San Domenico
by car or with
public transportatio.
Once you reached San Domenico , you heve two possibilities: either go down a short concrete path thet ends at the car park and climb up to Alpe Veglia (roughly one and a half hour walking in jeep route), or catch the chairlift to 'Alpe Ciamporino' and then reach Alpe Veglia through a beautiful panoramic path (roughly two hours for chairlift and walk).
From
Italy: take the freeway ('Voltri-Sempione') toward Gravellona Toce,
where it becames a highway; go ahead toward the 'Simplon Pass'; a
few kilometers after the end of the highway you enter Varzo.
From Switzerland: cross the 'Simplon Pass'; after the border you reach Varzo;
From Varzo: once you are in the villege, turn right (left if you come from Switzerland) toward 'San Domenico'/'Parco Naturale Alpe Veglia'; it takes you almost half an hour to reach San Domenico.
